I have lived in the village of Achiet-le-grand for more than
twenty years and I am married to a British woman.
My wife "Dawn" worked four years for
Avril Williams
at Ocean's villers Tea
Room and works now at the Thiepval visitor centre.
During this time, I listened to Avril, her guests and learned about WW1.
I became friend with Teddy and Phoebe Colligan the people who run
the Ulster tower at Thiepval. After visiting Achiet-le-grand military cemetery
Teddy encouraged me to explore further the history of the village during
WW1 as we noticed lost of different badges.
It isn't easy to find information about a less well known WW1 area. I am
hoping that someone, somewhere may have more details, photos, parts of diaries, soldiers details ect...to help me in my research and build this
website.
I would welcome any help!
I am also vice-president of the Somme Remembrance Association
www.somme-remembrance.org and Friend of the Somme in support of
The Somme Association Ltd.
